About BirdLife Bayside

BirdLife Bayside (formerly BAYBOCA) is the Bayside branch of BirdLife Australia (and formerly Bird Observation & Conservation of Australia). Our aim is to promote responsible birdwatching as an enjoyable recreation which leads to increased knowledge about Australian birds and a better understanding of their habitat needs, in the Bayside area of Melbourne, Australia.

We have monthly meetings and outings from February to November each year. Each meeting features a guest speaker, door prize, and supper. Our outings take us to the varied bird and wildlife habitats in our area. Lists of the birds we record during each outing are available on this web site.

Each outing is led by an experienced bird observer, who will be happy to share with you their knowledge of the local birds. Some outings also offer you the opportunity to learn about more than the fauna and flora of an area, through the presence of invited experts in fields such as native plants and mammals.

Members of BirdLife Bayside receive free entry to each meeting, and a personalised name badge. Membership is only $20 per year for singles, or $30 for a family.

Visitors are welcome: the entry fee to our meetings is only $5.

The membership/entry fee covers our hire of the meeting venue, plus a light supper.

Most outings are free to both members and visitors. For those which do have a cost, such as our regular trips to Mud Islands, the cost will be clearly stated. These outings usually have restricted numbers, and members will be given an opportunity to book their place before booking is opened to non-members.
